Funds For the Show
We expect a very busy year as we prepare for our first independent specialty, Friday September 12, 2008. We are excited about our plans, but it will be very expensive show for a small, new club such as ours, and we need all the help we can get from our members and friends. We estimate that the expenses of bringing in our judges and putting on a good show will be between $3500 and $5000, before we even begin to consider the trophies and class sponsorships.
Our first fund raising effort will be an auction of a 10" x14" print of two tri-colour cavaliers, by Yvonne Sovereign, matted and framed to 19"x22". A picture of this print is reproduced in the newsletter on this website. We will accept e-mail bids at deewallis@aol.com. The opening bid will be $100. Everyone who bids will be notified as the bids increase. The final bidding will be at our March 15 Member Meeting. We hope a happy family will take home a new picture and our coffers will begin to increase. Dana Pritchett has pledged another beautiful print to auction after our March Meeting. Search your walls, shelves and closets for other contributions. Be sure to be present at the meeting to bid on this print and other surprise items.
Cathy Eason and Dee Wallis will be sponsoring our first annual “You Don’t have to Go to the Yard Sale” Drive. For a suitable pledge you will be excused from participation in gathering, sorting, labeling, lugging, selling and dealing with the public. For an even larger pledge you can bring an item to the May meeting and abandon it. Then we get to decide whether we sell your item at a raffle in July or donate it to Goodwill in your honour. The cost gets higher as May gets nearer, so get your pledge in early for this Drive!
Steve Wallis is selling advertisements for the show catalogue. So, if you want to advertise your kennel, your wins, your puppies, your business or just wish us luck, contact Steve at Wallissm@bellsouth.net to reserve a page in the catalogue. Our trophy chair, Gwen Wells, is looking for trophies to top the wonderful cavalier pottery she found last year. Those donations are always popular, and you may contact her to sponsor one at lowesbunny@aol.com. We are planning to offer a class for title holders and rescue dogs. For the price of the entry these dogs will receive a rosette and be recognized in the ring for their accomplishments.
We welcome your ideas and suggestions – and flat out contributions. We would love to have additional items donated to auction by e-mail and at meetings. We have had an offer to donate several nights in a motel from a frequent visitor program. We hope to use these types of donations to put together packages to auction off to exhibitors: several nights at a motel convenient to the show site, along with other amenities to enhance the specialty experience.
So, put on your thinking caps, get out your check books, and get ready to help and to donate funds. We need every one of you to put us over the top and make our show successful.
