In Memoriam: Dana Lee Pritchett (1947-2026)

The Cavalier community recently lost a beloved member with the passing of Dana Lee Pritchett. Dana's warmth, friendship, and deep love for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels left a lasting impression on many who knew her. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends and share the obituary below in remembrance of her life.

It is with sadness that Dana’s family share the passing of Dana Lee Pritchett, who died February 17, 2026, at Duke University Hospital.
Dana was born March 19, 1947, to Lee Pritchett and Eloise McAbee Pritchett. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Julius Donald Pritchett; and her nephew, Timothy Lee Pritchett.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley White Pritchett of Henderson, NC; her nephew, Stephen Ray Pritchett (Susan) of King, NC; her niece, Donna Pritchett Smith (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; her niece, Lisa Pritchett Christopher (Stephen) of Boydton, VA; Cindy Smith Pritchett of Winston-Salem, NC, who remains a close and valued member of her family; along with 6 great-nieces and nephews and 9 great-great-nieces and nephews. Dana also leaves behind her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Fosse, who will remain in the loving care of her dear friend, Nancy Davis, who cared for him during Dana’s illness.

A devoted parishioner of St. Philip's
Episcopal Church, Dana was active in The Order of the Daughters of the King, embracing its call to prayer and evangelism.
Dana dedicated most of her professional life to the art of cosmetology. She worked at the prestigious Kenneth Salon in both New York and Atlanta and also worked alongside her lifelong friend and colleague, Sandy Winchester, at Sandy Winchester Hair LLC in Durham.
She treasured the many friendships she formed throughout her life — from her Durham High School classmates to fellow members of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club U.S.A. and Bald Head Island Conservancy, her loyal clients and colleagues, and her church parishioners. Among those who meant so much to her was Ann Berger, a close friend who offered steady support and kindness, especially during her last year of life.

A celebration of Life and a Service of Thanksgiving to God for the life of Dana will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 403 East Main Street, Durham, NC 27701. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Maryann Younger, with inurnment to follow in the church columbarium and a reception afterward.
Rest eternal grant to her, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon her.

Loving.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an active, graceful, well-balanced toy spaniel, very gay and free in action; fearless and sporting in character, yet at the same time gentle and affectionate. It is this typical gay temperament, combined with true elegance and royal appearance which are of paramount importance in the breed. Natural appearance with no trimming, sculpting or artificial alteration is essential to breed type.

Expression - The sweet, gentle, melting expression is an important breed characteristic.

Gay, friendly, non-aggressive with no tendency towards nervousness or shyness.
